Late-ripening Apple Trenching Technology

Many late-maturing apples have good taste and good quality, but are difficult to store. Through the practice in recent years, the author concluded a set of late-maturing apple technology, and the effect was very good. Gutter is a method of selecting long-term storage of fruit by selecting a suitable site, digging it into a trench, storing the fruit in it, and using natural cooling. It has the characteristics of large capacity, less labor, low cost, light loss, and high efficiency. Particularly suitable for large-scale storage of late-maturing varieties of apples. The main approach is: The construction of the trench: should be chosen where the terrain is flat, open, sunny, leeward, solid soil, high dry water, transportation, and convenient management. It is advisable to store the fruit ditch in the east-west direction so that cold-proof equipment can be erected. The ditch generally has a depth of 0.8 to 1 m and a width of 1 to 1.2 m. The length of the ditch is determined by the topography and the amount of stored fruit. Around the ditch, a ditch with a height of about 30 cm is formed. 2. Gutter method: fruit harvest is generally appropriate before and after cold dew. After removal, put the fruit in a cool, ventilated place for temporary storage, stacking a thickness of about 30cm. After the frost falls into the ditch (with an average temperature of 5 to 10 °C in ten days). Before entering the ditch, the bottom of the ditch is covered with a layer of 5 to 6 cm thick clean sand so as not to crush the apples, and it is also beneficial to moisturize the ditch. The fruit that enters the ditch must be strictly selected, remove the diseased fruit and fruit, mechanically hurt the fruit, and then start the fruit from one end of the ditch and lay it layer by layer, the thickness is 60-70cm, and the ditch is piled up in segments, leaving a certain space , Every 3 to 5m erect a ventilation bar tied with straw or corn stover. After the apple enters the ditch, it covers a layer of mats on the top of the pile of fruit, and the upper part of the ditch is to be used as a ridge to cover the roof, which will prevent the snow from falling and keep it warm. Also pay attention to preventing rat damage. The north side of the ditch is 1m away from the ditch, and a barrier made of corn stalks is erected to resist cold winds. 3. Management after entering the ditch: In the entire storage process, according to the weather conditions, do a good job of storage management. At the beginning of storage, the temperature should be reduced as much as possible. Use the cold air that sinks in the evening to reduce the temperature of the ditch and the temperature of the fruit. The cover is covered during the day and removed at night. Keep warm and prevent freezing during storage. As the temperature drops, the ditch cover is gradually thickened. It is generally divided into 2 to 3 times, each time covering the soft grass 10 ~ 15cm thick, and then tightly covered with corn stover. In the late period of storage, when the early spring of the following year begins to warm up, the first step is to properly uncover the ventilation of the cover to prevent the temperature in the ditch from rising too fast; and the second is to avoid frostbite due to sudden weather. This method can be stored until March of the following year, and the loss rate is only about 2.5%.
