Winter Cucumber Grafting Technology

Grafting and cultivation of cucumbers in greenhouses in winter can enhance the cucumber's resistance to low temperature, prevent cucumber wilt and disease, overcome the continuous cropping of cucumber, promote plant growth and increase yield.

Grafting method

Prepare blades, graft clips, 75% medicinal alcohol swabs (for the disinfection of operating articles) before grafting and a bamboo stick if plugged. Grafting places with temperatures of about 25°C and air humidity of 90% or more can be divided into labor and operations during operation, which can improve work efficiency and improve the quality of grafting.

The scion and rootstock were set at the same time by the method of connection, and the top of the pumpkin seedling was removed. From the bottom of the cotyledon 1cm, the knife was 30~45 angle from top to bottom, and the depth was 1/2~2/3. The length of the incision was 0.6~0.8. Centimeters; then the two seedlings are placed on a good incision, fixed with a clip, and immediately planted into a grafted seedling or nursery pot and buckled in time for the shed. When the planting interface is more than 2 cm away from the bed soil, the rootstock and scion roots are separated by a certain distance so that the hypocotyls can be cut off after the scions survive. The advantages of this method are: easy management after grafting, and high survival rate. Grafting speed is slow, the interface is near the ground, susceptible to disease.

Plug method to remove the growing point of the pumpkin, use a bamboo stick to insert the stem obliquely at an angle of 30, 0.6~0.8 cm, and temporarily pull the bamboo pick; take the cucumber seedling from the cotyledon about 1 cm into a two-sided wedge, pull out the bamboo stick , Immediately insert the cucumber into the bamboo skewer hole of the rootstock pumpkin. The advantages of this method are: fast grafting, no clips, but the technical requirements are higher than the grafting method.

Post-grafting management

Divided into 2 phases. Ten days after grafting is the healing period of the interface. Attention should be paid to the conditions of temperature and humidity. The plug-in method also requires shading. Grafting is the time, southern Xinjiang mostly in the middle and early October, northern Xinjiang earlier; when the external temperature is higher, the temperature within the grafted seedling shed is 23~30°C during the day, 15~20°C during the night, and the ground temperature is 20~28°C. Relative humidity more than 90% is appropriate. When the humidity is high, release the air in the morning and at night; when the humidity is high in the middle of the day, let the air out.

After the interface is healed, the humidity is properly reduced, and the temperature difference between day and night is increased. The disease is found to be sprayed in time. The new leaves of the rootstock are removed, and the hypocotyls of the cucumber are cut off at a distance of 1 cm below the interface. The grafting clips can be removed after the grafting. Cucumber grafting 25 to 30 days, the seedlings can reach 3 leaves 1 heart can be planted. When the seedlings adopting the docking method are planted, the soil can be buried to the grafting site.
