The results showed that the degree of heart damage during the heart attack was significantly reduced in the rats.
The researchers said that the above effect is most likely due to the reduction of aldehydes in damaged cells formed in the rats under the action of ALDH2. The study was published in the journal Science.
The researchers said that if further research proves that the enzyme can also play the same role in the human body, it is expected to find a new way to help patients with heart attacks or patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery to prevent heart damage.
