Brassinolide can eliminate pesticide residues

Scientists at Zhejiang University stated that the application of brassinolide to crops helps to eliminate certain pesticide residues. Scientists wrote that: "Brassica lactone may be very promising in terms of reducing the harm of insecticides to humans and the environment, and it is an environmentally friendly natural material that is suitable for a wide range of applications."

Brassinolide is a general term for more than 30 terpenoids that play an important role in plant growth and development. These substances were first discovered 20 years ago and it is known that these substances are related to the environmental stress response of plants and their defense against bacterial, fungal and viral pathogens.

The researchers treated the cucumber plants with brassinolide and then applied various insecticides, including commercial broad-spectrum insecticide chlorpyrifos. They found that brassinolide can significantly reduce the toxicity and residues of pesticides in plants. In addition, the researchers found that the expression of insecticide detoxifying genes, such as P450 monooxygenase and glutathione S-transferase genes, in plants increased after the administration of brassinolide, suggesting that brassinolide is through the regulation of plants. The metabolic process of pesticides to strengthen the resistance.
